DENTAL EMERGENCY?
CALL US ON 01689 862 416

What to do in an Emergency

We understand that emergencies can happen at any time and for this reason we provide emergency appointments every day; no matter how busy we are. We have experienced dental professionals that cover all aspects of dental care; so no matter what your problem is, we have a skilled clinician on hand to help you.
It is likely you will need immediate treatment to solve your dental problem and pain; which is why we have listed some of the reasons for emergency dental treatment and what to do in these situations below.
An emergency is how YOU perceive it, be it due to pain, because your speech has become affected, following an incident which has left you with an impairment to how you look, or if you need emergency work done prior to unplanned important meeting or media commitment.

Broken Tooth

If you have had some kind of injury and part of your tooth has been damaged or knocked out, or perhaps a crown has become displaced, call us as soon as possible.
Keep the affected area clean from any food or debris build up to avoid infection until you can come and see us.

A Knocked Out Tooth

If your tooth has been knocked out, believe it or not, there is still a chance that we can save it. However, there are things that you can do, to help preserve your tooth.
If it is knocked out and you still have it, gently lift it up by its crown top (the whiter part of the tooth which you can normally see in the mouth) and give it a careful wash with some milk, saline or water to remove any debris, keeping any tissue carefully attached. Place the tooth back in the empty socket.
If this isn’t possible, put milk into a container and put the tooth inside it, or you can put the tooth inside your mouth against your cheek until you get to the dentist.
The sooner you call The DenCare Clinic to arrange an an emergency appointment, the greater chance we have to save your tooth. Remember time is crucial therefore getting to us ASAP is very important.

Suspect a Broken Jaw

Apply a cold cloth, or preferably an ice pack wrapped around a tea towel to the area to ease the swelling. Remember, an injury or accident involving your jaw may mean you need to attend your local hospital.

Bitten Your Lip or Tongue

If you bite your lip or tongue by accident and you are in pain, apply a cold compress to the inside of your mouth to reduce the swelling. If you are losing blood, you may need to visit your closest emergency services because you may need stitches. If you cannot stop the bleeding with a compress or cloth, then A&E is the best course of action.

Toothache

There are a number of reasons for toothache, but it is mainly due to dental infection. If your toothache has become worse over time, use warm water to rinse your mouth. You may also choose to gently floss to remove any food that might cause further infection.
You need to contact us at The DenCare Clinic as soon as possible in order to receive treatment and prevent the spread of the infection. Painkillers can sometimes lessen the pain of sore teeth and gums, but you should not let them rest on your gums because it can cause the gum tissue to burn.
Do not rely on painkillers if you have dental pain, as they allow more time for the infection to spread. We recommend you get in touch with the practice earlier than 10am to ensure an emergency appointment on the same day.
Please call on 01689 862416 immediately.
Prepare to be treated by a friendly, professional and patient centred team. At DenCare, we strive to offer a range of Private Dental Solutions, Medical Treatments and Family Wide Care.
